Q11 - Error Downloading Transactions

I am using Quicken Deluxe v11 and am having a problem with downloads from a financial org. I have a new credit card via Elan Financial Services and have set it up in Quicken v11 so I can download transactions. When setting it up and activating One Step Update, everything appeared to go ok - no issues. It is setup in Online Center as expected. But when I use Online Center to download transactions, I get the following error in the One Step Update Summary:

Quicken cannot update these accounts because of an error on the Quicken Server [cc-501]

Can anyone advise as to what is this error, what is causing it and how I can fix it?

I have other credit cards in the Online Center and they update ok. Also, as to the Elan Financial Services credit card, I can review the card information on the Internet (IE8) with no problem.

So, any suggestions appreciated!

financial org.

Quicken v11 so

expected. But

You are not alone. I have an Elan credit card myself. I was able to download transactions a few months ago but then it suddenly quit working. I can log into the account on their website with no problem but not with Quicken. This problem started last fall while I was still using Q 2008 H&B and has continued with Deluxe 2011. We stopped using the card so I never pursued the problem.

Quicken v11 so

I believe, IIRC, that's the same error number I got when I was attempting to download information from Bank of America. They were fixing their software and so Q couldn't log in to the bank. There was a message that went along with the error number that said, in so many words, that BA was blocking the attempt. Did you get an error message or just the error number?

to the Elan

This is the error message I get on One Step Update Summary:

"Quicken cannot update these accounts because of an error on the Quicken Server [cc-501]"

Does that help in reviewing the problem - if you need additional info, let me know and I will see if I can supply it.

Based on my observations, the 501 error is almost always associated with a problem downloading using Express Web Connect. Since your fi only offers Web Connect downloads, it seems likely that you have chosen to use Express Web Connect to download from them.

Express Web Connect is the most unreliable method for downloading, and I think you are unlikely to get better results over the long run.

I believe you can get more consistently good download results from your fi by using plain Web Connect downloads (where you log on to their web site and initiate the download from there).

John - how do I check to see if they are using Express Web Connect? If I can find it, there might be a way to turn it off - possible?

Sure.

I suspect you have already gotten your answer in the Quicken Live Community.

In Q2011, you can determine your download method by opening your Quicken account to its " Edit Account Details" dialog (found in the "Account Actions" button), then selecting the "Online Services" tab. Note the available buttons: while there, you can also change the download method.

Backup first.

Ok,

I looked at that and there is no option to change the download method - only option is to "Remove from One Step Update". I looked at other credit card I have in there and the Option to "Change Connection Type" is available, but not with the Elan Financial Services Credit Card. Any way to make that option available?

I always backup upon exiting Quicken :)

Strange.

Your financial institution is listed as offering only Web Connect downloads.

The only way you can use One Step Update to download from a Web Connect fi is by using Express Web Connect. And Quicken should tell you that the account is using Express Web Connect on the Online Services tab in the Edit Account Details dialog.

If your account is setup to download using Express Web Connect, I don't think you would need to do anything to do a plain Web Connect download but just log on to the fi's web site and find/click the "Download" button for Quicken.

If you want to stop having Quicken try to use Express Web Connect for the account, then you'd need to "Remove from One Step Update".
