Quicken Basic 2006 R5 cannot do one-step update through ext NAT firewall

Upgraded to R5 and could no longer one-step update from Citibank although the other accounts worked.

Looked at the packet traffic with ethereal. Clearly a packet (size?) problem or problem with content that NAT doesn't know how to modify. So I (gulp) by-passed my external NAT firewall (praying WinXP firewall would protect me for at least a few minutes) and it worked...went back behind the firewall...didn't work. Deinstalled R5 (which I had allowed to upgrade a week or two ago) and reinstalled from the original pre-R5 CD - everything worked like it used to.

Quicken Support wanted to charge me to tell them about this (the packet traffic and all) but I didn't feel the need to pay for the privilege of reporting the bug, so I'm sending this out for google to index.

I don't know what type of router you have, but does it have a logging function? Do you have any anti-virus running in the router?

Could you tell the difference in the Ethereal packets with and without the NAT?

I am still using R4, so when I upgrade I will watch out--thanks.

No anti-virus software. Just NAT&PAT and the obvious access lists. I've been using Quicken through it for several years...never saw this before...

Well...I watched the whole thing with ethereal (I could've cut-n-pasted it here if only I had saved it, but I was so ticked at Quicken customer support for being uninterested that I didn't bother to save it when they said it'd cost *me* money to continue the support call...and now I don't really want to upgrade/downgrade again just to capture it...

Note that only Citibank showed the glitch...two other update sites completed fine during the same one-step update.

I just looked for a Q2006 R5 and could only find an R4. I noticed an earlier version had an R5, but 2006 doesn't appear to have one yet.

Whoops....thanks for noticing...I have 2006 on the brain. It is Quicken Basic *2005* R5, not Basic 2006. Knowing how software maintenance is done, I assume the same problem will creep into 2006 at some point, unless a 2005 R6 comes out with a fix first.

Thanks again.
