Quicken (wells fargo) on 2 PC's?

Aug 14, 2011 4 Replies

I have Quicken set up on my PC with web connect and access and download all our Wells Fargo Accounts transactions. If my spouse bought his own copy of Quicken and set it up on his PC can he then duplicate all the same transactions? Or is it once they are downloaded to any PC then it's done? I guess what I am asking is if I download all our transactions to my PC can my husband also download the same transactions on his PC?

You would have to keep the files in a NT Share. The PC sharing the folder of Quicken data files would access them directly. The second computer could map a drive letter an access the same data files. Albeit the two computers can NOT be accessing the Quicken data files simultaneously. Best practice would alsodictate using the same version of Quicken on both platforms such that they expect and utilize the same Quicken data file version.

First of all, a copy of Quicken can be installed on several computers within one household. Please do check the EULA.

Secondly, Quicken keeps track of what has already been downloaded within its datafile(s). Otherwise you could never go back to a backup and redownload what got srewed up. Therefore, 2 people can independently keep track of transactions in the same accounts at their FIs. But I would suggest that you do not access the same bank/financial institution at exactly the same time - the bank may not like that.

Thirdly, you could each access the same Quicken file (eg on a fileserver) from both computers, but there is a severe risk of fouling up the file(s) if you did this simultaneously.

Lastly, backups are your friends. Back up frequently ...

Oh, yeah, do set rules as to how you're going to call things like categories, and how you are going to record expenses. Otherwise you're going to run into trouble when you start comparing.

You interpreted correctly Han. That makes sense, thank you.
