Scrolling issue

The background: Quicken 2006 Premier QA5. Vista Ultimate. Everything worked perfectly until I replaced the wired keyboard & mouse with a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse 2.0 and Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite keyboard. This is a mouse issue only - the keyboard works fine. When I use the scrolling wheel on the mouse, registers in Quicken will only scroll up regardless of the direction of the mouse. This is a Quicken phenomena only. Interestingly enough, the scroll wheel on the keyboard works properly. In contacting Microsoft, they keep repeating they do not support third party software. When I finally convinced them that this was not an issue till their product was introduced, they offered to buy the product back. Has anyone experienced an issue like this? And, hopefully got it cured?

Thanks. Rich

So I am not going nuts..... When I was XP, I used a Logitech wireless set-up & had no trouble. Bought a new machine and ...... I have searched Intuit's FAQ's and Support pages to no avail. Hmmm....

Hi, Rich.

I'm sorry to say that I've had this same problem for months - and have seen it reported in other newsgroups, including by other Microsoft MVPs. We haven't figured out yet if the problem is in Quicken (because it doesn't happen in any other application) or in Vista (because we didn't see it until we started running Vista), or in the IntelliPoint drivers, or in the mouse itself (because it doesn't happen with other hardware)... Wherever the problem actually lies, NOBODY seems interested in fixing it. :>(

For me, the problem shows up in the Quicken registers and in reports. I have to use the scroll bar to see the end of my report or the current date in a register. I'm running Vista Ultimate x64, Quicken 2007 Basic, and the Microsoft Wireless Laser Desktop 6000 since about October. Device Manager shows the driver as "Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Mouse (IntelliPoint), dated 11/7/2006, Driver version 6.10.155.0.

Fascinating. I checked my Device Manager and have the exact same stats for my mouse as you do. In one respect, I am relieved that it's "not me" however it would be great if either Microsoft and/or Intuit would take an interest. Since this is not an individual problem, perhaps some interest on their part will be generated. Should, or perhaps "when" I discover a fix, I will be sure to post it. I appreciate everyone's postings to what I feared was a strictly local thing.

Double-checking, R. C. While your mouse scrolling is an issue, your scroll wheel on your keyboard functions properly (as mine does)?

Hi, Rich.

My keyboard does not have a scroll wheel. But it's interesting that yours does and functions properly, even though your mouse does not.

I've seen several different keyboards bundled with the wireless laser mouse in sets labeled Desktop 6000 - or something very similar. My keyboard says on the bottom that it is a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A.

Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite Keyboard Model Number 1011 says mine.

The problem seems to be with IntelliPoint 6.x. Just Google for IntelliPoint 6.x and Vista and you'll find LOTS of problems. Killing Ipoint.exe will probably fix your problem (but you will lose special mouse settings / functions).

As you indicated, I searched and found a lot of issues, then uninstalled IntelliPoint just to see what would happen. Fixed the problem. As for the enhanced features IntelliPoint provides, I could care less so I will leave it uninstalled. Thank you for your input and easy fix.
