thinking about downloading quicken 2006

If I download Quicken 2006 off their web site, is it just going to install on the computer I download it from, or is it going to allow me to copy the installation files and such to an installation CD and have it for the future in case I change PCs?

You should be able to download the file, then execute the install. This will allow you to burn a backup copy to CD.

I'd wait and buy it from Costco; they're selling it for $65 plus a $20 mail in rebate. Quicken will sell it to you for $79.99 with your $10 upgrade discount.

Costco should have it anytime now... You could also buy it from any computer store and get a $20 mail-in after paying $79.99.

I took the mail option with the free software in the offer. But one thing that caught my eye was not having to fool with the mail in rebate, and getting that up front. The down side to my option was paying for shipping.

Does the download option not include the free software?

No, the download is just the Quicken download. I originally purchased the download, thinking the $20 rebate was deducted, when in fact, it was just a $10 discount (and no rebate is available for the download.). Anyway, when I saw Staples' deal ($20 manufacturer's rebate plus a $20 Staples gift card), I couldn't resist and returned my Quicken download. Intuit's customer service rep was very polite, processed my refund quickenly, and gave me a transaction ID. Didn't even ask why I was returning the product. So yesterday, I went to Staples and bought QP2006 for $79.99 + tax. They printed out two receipt rebates/forms at the register. But then I went to the Staples rebate site online and was able to submmit my rebate requests using transaction/ID numbers from the rebate forms. I got an email saying they were processing my rebates, and that I'd have them in *four* weeks, not the usual 8-10 or more. And, I don't have to send anything in! Very easy, which is what Staples is advertising these days.

But if you're going for the Staples deal, remember that although the manufacturer's rebate is good till around November IIRC, the $20 gift card offer expires on 8/20.

Margret

I just went to the Quicken site and it shows that I can download 2006 premier, Willmaker, and the investing guide, all for $59.00. I still haven't decided if I want to wait until the bugs are worked out.

Margaret Wils> No, the download is just the Quicken download.

I downloaded the deluxe version [with the $20 instant rebate offer] . This offer included the free Willmaker software. Upon approval of order, my account showed two separate files available for download; QW06 and Willmaker.
