Unable to perform online updates

For a week or so, I have not been able to update my accounts. I have been doing updates for several years. Within Quicken, I was not able to get to Quicken.com either.

Recently, over the Thanksgiving holiday, my son installed Internet Explorer

7 from Microsoft. Could there be something related to that installation? I have read in an IE newsgroup of others complaining about connection problems.

There have been a number of people reporting problems that might be related to IE7 (and a few confirmed). But there does not seem to be one consistent and verifiable source of problem.

One thing to look for is whether you still have SSL 2.0 and SSL

3.0 checked in Internet Explorer Tools > Internet Options > Advanced.

Other than that, I do not know of any specific cause.

Thanks John. The SSL 2.0 was not checked. After checking it, I set an automatic update. I received the following message when the update was attempted: The instruction at "0x10005c8e" referenced memory at "0x10005c8e". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. (Quote symbols in original message.) I then opened Quicken and attempted to launch quicken.com from within. That did not work either. I rebooted the computer and both the updates, with some exceptions: Schwab accounts, and access to quicken.com worked. Thanks for your assistance.

With regard to the note from Les to this subject, I disabled my firewall to see if that would be blocking the Schwab accounts. Updates to those accounts are not processing. Thanks Les for your reply. I will post a note when (if?) I resolve the problem.

If you recently upgraded to one of the new Quicken releases, that might cause your firewall to no longer allow Quicken to access the internet. If that's the case, you can usually just go into the firewall and tell it to allow Quicken (again) and fix the problem.

I think I have discovered the problem with Schwab accounts. Recently, I changed the USER ID for the accounts at the Schwab site. Now I need to change my Quicken account to reflect that change. Trouble is, I have been looking for a way to change it and I can't find out how to do that. Must be right in front of my face, right?

"Edit Account Details" button in "Account Attributes" on "Summary tab of the account.
