Epson TMU200

I am not very technically inclined but I did manage to upgrade from QS2000 to RMS this evening. That is, everything seems to be working except for my Epson TMU200 receipt printer and cash drawer. Do I really need an OPOS driver? Can't I just use the Windows driver? And if I need the OPOS driver, which one do I download from epsonexpert.com for the TMU200?

The 2.4 Epson OPOS driver works with the TMU200. I haven't tried anything more recent than that.

the Download is called something like ADK - and it's considered a "Developer's Kit", but it includes the OPOS Drivers that you need. When you do the OPOS install, the only thing you need to be careful of is that you select the "Common Control Object" rather than the "Epson Control Object".

RMS will allow you to use Windows drivers, but you will have to set up the cash drawer differently - I don't know if there is any problem with the TMU200 & Windows printers, except that the U200 is a slow printer in the best of times and the Windows drivers tend to print slower than OPOS in general.

Glenn:

Many thanks for your prompt and helpful response. I've managed to downlaod the ADK kit but wonder if I need to update it with all the service packs. I see the TMU200D listed in the POS printer list once I download the ADK kit. Do I just click on that? What else does one need to do?

After selecting TMU200D, you have to select the specific model - based on the type of interface your printer uses. For example, if you have a parallel printer, select TMU200DP. In the LDN section enter a 'friendly name' for the printer - like "Printer1" - this is the value you will enter in the Register Properties page in RMS. Click the Next button, and on the next page of the OPOS setup, click "Check Health Interactive" - this is a test function - it should print a couple lines of text to the printer - if this works, the printer is configured correctly for OPOS.

After you have the printer working, set up a cash drawer in OPOS setup - usually Multi-A works, but it depends on your hardware...
