Network question RMS 2.0 (POS talking to backoffice server)

Mar 04, 2008 3 Replies

I have a 2 lane RMS 2.0 system up and running. Both lanes talk to a backoffice server with the SQL db on it. Everything is working fine but I've noticed a lot of traffic between the POS machines and the server. It seems that every sec a few hundred bytes are sent from the POS system to the server and the server responses with about 100 bytes back. This happens if the POS is doing something or if its idle. It also has nothing to do with both lanes being up. I've tested this with just 1 lane up and I still get this 'chatter' between the POS and Server. I should mention that the 2 POS systems are running VISTA and the server XP. The server is also running the PC-Charge application.

Could anyone check and see it they notice any 'chatter' between their POS system and a server system?

if I stop the POS application then the 'chatter' stops also from that machine.

Anyone have any thoughts on this interaction????

thanks Ed

The POS system is just reassuring itself that the database is still available. If the connection fails, the registers will go into offline mode.

Thanks for the thoughts on this. I'll assume that everything is fine.
