OPOS Device Setup

Mar 12, 2005 6 Replies

This is a first installation of RMS for us, and I've had a difficult time finding information on setting up the OPOS devices - some work (by default?) but not completely.

I have a POS hardware bundle from Dell: Epson TM-T88III receipt printer, APG cash drawer, and a Cherry keyboard with MSR.

My #1 problem is the configuration of OPOS device names. I found the "Configure Microsoft OPOS Service Objects" application, but beyond not seeing a printer option, I also do not see any means to work with USB devices, only traditional serial connections.

The printer prints receipts (it was configured as a Windows device in RMS's Manager app for the register), but the cash drawer does not open.

Additionally, it is my understanding that by swiping a credit card at the "Credit Card Verification" dialog, the card number and expiration date would be entered, but it doesn't -- the credit card number and a few extra characters, but definitlely not the entire contents of Track 1.

In summary: 1) How do I get the cash drawer to open. 2) How/where do I swipe a credit card to automatically fill in the appropriate fields?

Any links or other assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I think the best way to use that Epson printer is OPOS.

You need to install the Epson OPOS ADK. You can download these at

When you install it, make sure you select common control objects. At the end of the install, it will prompt you to install the TMUSB driver. Set up the Printer first and then the cash drawer. Usually APG wants you to update the pulse setting to high for their cash drawers. You can find this in device specific settings in the OPOS utility.

Once you have given the pritner and drawer names in the Epson OPOS software, enter those same names in RMS under Database, Registers.

If you are using the Cherry Keyboard to swipe credit cards, You will want to disable tracks 1 and 3 and enable track 2. You will also need to enter the correct header and terminator in the Cherry software. The header is ';' and the terminator is 'Enter'. The semicolon tells the keyboard swiper how to parse the credit card info. Cherry's support # is 800-510-1689 if you need their help on this.

I have setup several RMS systems with the same hardware. it will work great once you get it set up.

Call your RMS reseller to assist you and they will have it setup for you in no time.
