Printing labels (barcodes)

Currently configuring the RMS - we did not open the store yet.

We're using:

  • Epson TM-T88iii
  • Metrologic MS 9520

To print the barcodes, can I configure the RMS to use the Epson receipt printer (I would not think this is a very bright idea) or use another printer?

What make/model would work best? Not sure whether to choose a cheap laser printer, a regular inkjet or a specialized label printer?

Any suggestion would be very welcome.

Thanks a lot! Adrian

Adrian,

I would not recommend the receipt printer.

Depends on the # of labels printed.

The Dymo 400 works fine, inexpensive ($130-200), but the labels are expensive, can buy at Office Depot/Max/Staples.

Zebra or Cognitive printers are expensive ($300-500), labels are much cheaper, but harder to find

Inkjets are cheap (free - $300), labels moderate in pricing, ink price may kill you, can buy at Office Depot/Max/Staples

Lasers can be cheap to moderate ($100-3000), labels moderate in pricing, can buy at Office Deport/Max/Staples.

Thanks Jeff. We have a small store, antipated sales of around 100K annually. Probably a few hundred SKUs in the store at any one time.

Don't completely discount the idea of printing with a regular laser printer. I print on 1/4-sheet (4.25x5.5) and regular Avery address labels. My consumable cost is very low--unlike dedicated label printers.

Dan,

I would go for the laser printer. You can use it for both labels and reports and the supplies won't kill you.
