Warning 941: copy protection missing ???

Jun 02, 2006 13 Replies

Hi, I am gettig a message Warning 941 (Copy protection device that used to be on this reguster was not found.)

This started happening when I updated to version 1.3 few days ago.

Does anyone have any advice? I checked and the device is in USB port conntected ok. I also thought maybe it is the receipt printer and it is turned on with everything ok.

Any ideas?

Hi Zorian - assuming that your settings are all the same as they were pre-install, you could try uninstalling the driver for the device, then plug it in and let Windows reinstall the driver, see if that takes care of the message

Zorian,

Unplug the USB dongle and plug it back in.

The 1.3 update uninstalls and re-installs the dongle drivers and sometimes the dongle isn't re-initialized on the re-start.

I found that with USB dongle you have to turn of the drivers for the serial dongle for it to work

Jeff, I tried what you said as well as other suggestions...and nothing. We still get that warning. The dongle used to work fine on the previous version.

Any other suggestions...or should I call Microsoft directly for help?

Thanks, Zorian

Zorian,

Check to make sure that you don't have multiple machines listed as Register #1

SO Admin | File | Connect | put in your password | File | Configuration | Register tab

Jeff,

We only have 1 computer with POS and never used others... and I checked and it says we have 1 register in the configuration so that can't be the problem.

Any other suggestions or should I be dialing MS support at this point? We have tried EVERYTHING that was suggested here, reinstalling drivers, replugging the USB device, reinstalling drivers, etc... It just started happening when we installed ver.1.3. Very strange... Please help if you know other suggestions.

Zorian,

When you un-plug and plug the USB dongle in, do you see a New Hardware Found balloon in the lower right? If not, try a different USB port.

If you do and still have the problem, are you going into the POS or Manager after you re-plug the dongle in on THAT machine?

Is the machine with the dongle on it the one that giving you the error?

Hello guys, my name is Johnny! And I am having the same problem, only I am using the parallel dongle. Evrything was working fine till last week. We have the main register and then another computer in the next office right next door they can practically see each other. However, I get that Warning 941: The copy protection device, well you guys know. I tried calling tech support for the dongle and it helped a little. But now I get 2 messages the warning and message and the this software has an illegal license and will shutdown.

Warning 941: The copy protection device that used to be on this register was not found. Do you wish to continue? Yes or No

  1. Go to register where dongle is!
  2. Under C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Sentinel Driver
  3. Click on icon with setup system driver.
  4. Under the ecp or by default it should be number 1 column for parallel port. Highlight and make sure all boxes at the bottom are all unchecked.
  5. Open up retail manager!
  6. Go to database tab, registers tab, register and create a new register if using 2.
  7. If just using one you should be ok from here on out.
  8. If you are using 2 registers, and once the second has been created.
  9. Be sure to go into properties and uncheck printer and cash drawer settings.
  10. Make sure that under the database settings that, the register is labeled
  11. In order to do that you will have to login to the retail management administrator.
  12. And go to configure, and you will need the password in order to do so.
  13. Now you should be able to login to both without any warnings or errors.

Johnny, so did you figure out how to resolve the 941 problem?

We are still having it! And MS support has not been able to help much ...they keep stating the obvious like make sure you have the registers in correct #, etc... but I only have 1 POS and 1 register so that is all fine...

Anyway, if you figured it out, please let me know - otherwise our system is also in 941 and in EVALUATION (red!) mode... it's bad!

Zorian,

You best fix it before it times out!

Have you tried changing the dongle driver to the type of dongle you have?

Go into Windows Explorer and navigate to here;

C:\Program Files\Rainbow Technologies\Sentinel System Driver

Double click on SetupSysDriver.exe | Configure Driver button | double click on the line of the type of dongle you have | Make sure that Use this Port is selected | Double click on the other line and set Use this port to No OR remove the line entirely
