Copy the files to the hard drive and then using windows explorer change to remove the read-only file attributes.
You also need to make sure that the 2 computers are the same version including patches. If the older computer has been updated while the new one has not then you will encounter problems restoring the file on the new computer. It might be worth having the older computer check for updates one last time and then make a fresh backup file. Check for updates on the new computer before attempting to restore the file.
I had this problem several times in the past with QB 6.0 For me it was down to the upgrade issues.
For me I had to open one of the demo files, or just create a new company file which then allows you to at least open quickbooks and perforn the on-line software update.
Once software is updated to current release you should be able to open your real company files without problem.

Did he actuall do a QB backup on the old computer? If so, how & where to? Doesn't sound like he made the backup & then copied the *.qbb

N Owen To reply, please change "ONE" to numeral
Those file extensions (QDF,QEL,QSD) are QUICKEN file extensions -- not QUICKBOOKS.
