Editing an existing budget in QB 2005

Hello.

I'm using QB 2005 and can't seem to figure out how to add a line item to an existing budget. I can edit the amounts on already existing budget items but can't add an new line. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. Terry

In my budgets there is a "line item" for every account. To "add a line item", I add a new account which appears in the budget when I next open it. Mine is the Canadian version, but I assume other versions would work the same way.

Hmmm that worked if I added a new account to the chart of accounts - it showed up on my budget. However, what I want to do is use an existing account on the chart of accounts. The existing expense was used in prior years but not expected to be used in the current year. It won't let me add the existing expense to the budget. If need be, I suppose I can add a new item, intergrate it into the budget and then merge it w/ the old one. Seems a clunky way of doing it. I'm surprised Intuit didn't anticipate that users would need to change the budget. It was possible to do so in older versions of QB (before they "improved" the budget feature. Any other suggestions?

Sorry, I don't understand. ***EVERY*** income/expense account in my chart of accounts is in my budget. Are you saying that some of your accounts are just not in the budget?

Yes, - only the income/expense accounts that I entered values for in my original budget show up on the "Setup Budget" input page. When I created a new expense, it was showing on the "Setup Budget" input page but not the other income/expense accounts. Are you using QB 2005?

2005 Canadian Premier Accountant edition. It works the same way in the 2004 version. 2002 is quite different, but I can still add new values to a previously unbudgeted account. I haven't re-checked any other versions, but I don't ever remember a version that behaved as you describe. Sorry, I have no idea why your experience differs from mine.
