Help please with Installation of Update

I recently downloaded the updates for QB2006; however, when I exit and re open QB, the files do not install. Is there a way to install the files? I even went so far as to uninstall QB and reinstalled - same thing happens.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

QuickBooks has pulled this update until further notice. They are encouraging everyone not to install if you are receiving the update message until they can figure what is happening. They ran into some major issues with this. Keep checking on the QuickBooks website when the update is avaiable again. They have been working on this since last week.

The update is an .exe file for Windows and not an auto-updater. You have to double-click to run the .exe update file after you've downloaded it.

If you're on a Mac then you dowload an installer. Double click the installer, let the update do its thing, then eject it.

I noticed that they took down the QB 2006 R5 manual update over the weekend, and I did find a few posts in the User Community forums that mentioned problems and one or two statements that indicated that a tech support person had indicated that there were bugs, but I can't find any official post anywhere on the website that acknowledges that there is a problem with R5 or advising people not to install it. I find this both strange and annoying. One of the forum posters indicated that they could no longer get there data base to open. If this is true, I would think that Intuit should post a clear warning to not install R5, especially on any system that is not experiencing the problems that it is intended to fix.

The only official message I could find was: "The QuickBooks 2006 and Enterprise 6.0 R5 Manual Download is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later. We are sorry for the inconvenience." This message doesn't acknowledge any defect in the R5 patch.

I wonder if this .exe update is why my QB 2006 locks up everytime I try to email an invoice......I ve spent a fortune in time, money, and IT help to fix but no resolution.

I do have 2 amyuni drivers one called document convert 2.50 and another called PDF converter 2.07 could these be in conflict with one another and does anyone if know if there is supposed to be 2 or just 1?

Thanks Brian B

You do? I don't. It is quite evident that Intuit discovered that there was a problem with the patch after it was initally made available. Upon discovering the problem they halted further downloads and are working to resolve the issue. Guess what, shit happens.

How is it quite evident that Intuit discovered that there is a problem with R5? Where have they posted any statement that makes that clear? The only official statement I have seen says that "R5 Manual Download is temporarily unavailable" That type of message could be caused by an out of service server or some other problem at their end with access to customer information. I do not see it as an admission that anything is wrong with R5 and the users should not install it, if they have not already done so.

I know shit happens. I trust that they are working diligently on R6. What I don't understand is why they have not posted a clear warning to their customers to not install R5. Some customers may have downloaded R5 and not yet installed it. Shouldn't Intuit warn them?

The fact that it is no longer available for down load is sort of an indication that this is so.

As far as I am concerned the message is quite clear.

No, screw them and their little doggies.

QuickBooks now has a message regarding the removal of their version 5 update on their website.
