Emergency ? re Q 2008

Yup.

Q2008 R1 can not read files created in Q2008 R2 and greater. Upgrade to the newest release of Q2008 (R7).

I cannot see a way to get my 2998 updated. Please tell me how. I see no "check for products update" like most programs have.

Normally, Quicken will tell you that there is an update available and ask you if you want it; sometimes when you start Quicken and sometimes when you exit: if you answer yes, Quicken will go online, get the update, and apply it. But this does not always happen; then you must resort to manual updates. Andrew has given you the link to get those.

I download every manual update for every Quicken version I own, and save them. If I should ever have to reinstall Quicken when I do not have online access, or the Intuit support site is not operational, or I just want to revert to an earlier release of a version, I will be able to update Quicken to whatever release I choose.

FWIW, today I was given the option to update to R8. I said OK or Next (or whatever) and the download proceeded. At the end I received a message that the install failed (some error about the "patch engine"). Because of some other problems I had been having, I re-booted the computer. When I opened Quicken (2008 H&B) and clicked on Help, I saw a line near the bottom that said "Update Quicken Now" or some such. I clicked on it and Quicken proceeded to update to R8. After the update, the "Update Quicken Now" was no longer shown under Help.

Presumably, Quicken checks to see if an update file is available at a certain location. If it is, then it gives you the opportunity to install the update and then, I would guess, erases the update file and removes the "Update Quicken Now" from the Help pull down menu.
