Intuit Giving Away Quickbooks Monday

Just remember that you will end up waiting 6+ weeks for your rebate check.

Also, Staples will charge sales tax on the 159.99, so it won't be exactly free.

Yeah, right. A number of posts I've seen indicate this is a fraud. Some indicate that Staples hasn't a clue what this is about. I'd love someone to post a direct link from the Intuit or Staples site (not a community posting) that shows this. I might be totally jaded this time of year, but I don't believe it. (But, seeing as how there's a Staples on my way to work, I'll stop by).

All Pro Advisors received an e-mail from Intuit with this information. We've also had several Pro Advisors check with their local Staples store and have confirmed this plus several Intuit employees have confirmed this on several message boards.

As far as I can tell, it is real.

Cool beans! I'll let you know what I find out. I've been the treasurer of a small 501(c)(3) org for the past few years using Quicken, and it would be fun to move over to QB if real.

Just remember it is "while supplies last" so get there early.

As an update to this...we've received the following from Alison Ball, a Senior program manager at Intuit:

The QuickBooks offer at Staples is real, it is in-store AND online, but it is only WHILE SUPPLIES LAST... So my best advice is for people to go online, or go to their local stores, EARLY on Monday (tomorrow).

Please note that Store Managers don't always read their communications from Staples Corporate (the folks that Intuit is dealing with) and there are 1400 stores nationwide. Therefore, I don't want to hear any griping or blaming Intuit if people go in and the store doesn't know about it...

we DID let them all know and we went through proper channels on this.

In fact, the offer will be in the MAP report (an internal Staples communication that Store Managers are supposed to read...)

Also - the Staples.com home page will be updated on Monday am probably very early in the am.

Additionally, I've been reading some of the skeptic's emails and blog posts, and want to get it out there that there is no "trick" in this offer. Intuit simply wanted to support small businesses, and Staples wanted more people in the store, and a lot of buzz... :-)

Well, it's Monday morning, and I still don't see anything either on Intuit's site or the Staples site. I still think (I'll admit of course I'm wrong) but this seems VERY VERY fishy. How do YOU know "Alison" is real? You would think that something like this SHOULD be communicated properly to Staples and SHOULD be on their website?

If it's available 'online', how can supplies NOT last?

Laura, with Quicken I can load and work with client data files. Is this also true with Quickbooks Pro 2009, or do you need a different (more expensive) Quickbooks version to do this? Thanks.

FWIW, I did go into my local store at 9 AM, and no, the manager did NOT know about this - but I was the third person in the store asking for this at the same time. One person left. He did a check on his computer and was able to order one for me - the 3rd was looking for a Mac version.

So, got the rebate form as well and we'll see if/when I get the package in the mail.

Laura - Looks like indeed I was wrong! Still think the whole thing was a tad bizzarre that they didn't seem to publicize it well, but one won't argue with success. If I had TOTALLY thought it was a fraud, I wouldn't have wasted my time going into the store this morning which I did. So thanks to all who posted with the original pointers.

Not that I use the software, I did go out of my way to go to my local Staples. I figure by my shelf space they would have 8 packages if they where fully in stock. 1400 Staples stores plus 1 online - probably

If your client is using Simple Start, Pro or Premier then Pro will open up the files without any problem. You do miss out on several Premier features.
