Question about alerts/reminders

Here are a couple of ideas:

I don't remember what the original Quicken "Home" page looks like because I tailored mine so long ago and I don't remember which things I added or deleted. My Home page shows Alerts at the top (this is where you Note should show); Scheduled Transactions; graph of my key liquid cash accounts; calendar.

When I start Quicken it opens to my Home page so the Alerts are always the first thing I see.

For the estimated tax payment I would have used scheduled transaction with an appropriate lead time. That would have generated an alert. I could have also added a calendar note, but I don't usually do that for things like this.

Then, of course, I still do have to start Quicken each day or at least often enough so that I do see the alerts in time to act on them. :-)

Nathan - despite the nice feature of the NOTES for the Quicken calendar, I have dropped using it over the years for these types of reminders. As an alternative for this, I use the 'to-do' list in Outlook (not Outlook Express, but the full-blown version) that I run as equally often as Quicken for email, address list, and to-dos. It's a lot more flexible in the calendaring and reminders. For example, I have several to-dos that I have as recurring entries that automatically get moved out to the next due-date once I finish the one due today. (One I use to remind myself to change my razor blade every two weeks!).

I'm not suggesting you go out and buy Outlook for this single function, but rather offer perhaps a different idea on how to do these financial alerts. Maybe you have some other tool that is equally functional or better that you could use instead?
