When I download my transactions from the credit cards, the Quicken 2004 pre-fills the categories based on previous samples. While this is sometimes helpful, it is more often troublesome since i often use the split, and it is rarely the same. I now go through all downloaded transactions and delete the pre-filled.
anyway to turn this off?

Browse thru:
Edit > Preferences > Quicken Program > Register
Numerous options here for you to select from.
Might also want to clean up your 'Memorized Transactions List' and turn off 'Auto Memorize' [if it's currently on].

By the way, i do like the feature where when entering a transaction, say in checking, i put in a standard payee, and it brings up an associated category.. That i like. hmmmm.. guess it is doing that with the credit cards too? See, with checking, i put in a payee like M&T bank, and it is associated with a category, like Auto Payment. This i like since i have multiple "Auto... " categories.
sigh, this is getting complicated.
