Quicken User Forums?

Like Han I was unaware of the forum and also signed up. However, I intend to post my questions and comments in this forum. I want to continue to advertize my stupidity in a medium that is accessible to Google and other search engines and which does not require registration (if for no other reason than that I am up to my ears in login ids and passwords).

It should be clear to everyone that I am of the same opinion as Jerry Boyle. I just took advantage of the forum to reach Intuit employees with one of this groups gripes - the idiotic decision of Intuit to abandon, rather than enhance QIF. The OFX interface is terrible if you want to use it other than for downloading (with which there are problems such as refusal to import into the right account).

I may occasionally look into the forum, especially if there is mention of a particular discussion here.

Try this search:

formatting link
&hl=en&lr=&safe=off&c2coff=1&q=quicken+support+forums+qif+&btnG=Search

It does not *require* registration, you can browse to your heart's content without registering. If you *do* register, it'll offer you an option to store a cookie and keep you logged in on that site permanently.

Try finding a valid reason you are anti- that site.

It has been mentioned in this group several times.

And there are one or two that my Googling has missed, perhaps because they did not mention the URL. I found out about the forums from a post on this NG.

It looks like Google keyword searches can find at least some current pages from the Quicken Forum site, but Google doesn't seem to be able to search archived discussions and I think this is important. Correct me if I'm wrong.

If you can't access archived discussions via keyword search and you can't post without registering, I stand by my statement that I strongly prefer public newsgroups (in general) to specialized forums.

And with search engines becoming more powerful and clever I want information in places where these engines can access, catalog and preserve it.

I'm not anti the Quicken Forum site - I wouldn't have signed up for it if I were. I'm just more confident in the ability of public newsgroups to foster and preserve free and uncensored discussions.

And I want to make my personal opinion, and it is just my opinion, that I like Han am wary of Intuit's ability to draw free speech into an arena over which they have editorial control. They may not be fully exercising that control now, but past behavior is not always an indicator of future bahavior.

I see that you are the leader in the "Top Users - Reward Points" category on the Quicken Forum site. Congratulations! I hope you'll keep up your good work on that site but that you won't abandon this NG.

THERE ARE NO ARCHIVED DISCUSSIONS.

You can search the entire site in Google by prefixing your search with the Google "Site:" keyword.

There was a Quicken-sponsored forum, I believe, and then there wasn't but now there is again. I find the structure of their forum a little cumbersome, not always obvious where I am and how to get where I want to go. I prefer this user group, but of course there are smart users and good answers on that forum too.

They will also be missing from the google search if the OP used the X-Archive: No header. These messages disappear after a week.

I did EXACTLY that before I posted my comment and Google isn't finding articles that I can browse to directly.

For example, Google searches of the QF site for "July budget" (with the quotes) using my Google toolbar

formatting link
and the Advanced Search page

formatting link
both fail to find any articles.

The same search using the Search function on the QF site finds 3 articles.

I don't understand all the Google search parameters, but to the best of my knowledge I don't have any exotic Preferences set. Am I doing something wrong or is my original contention correct that Google (and probably other public search engines) do not have a very complete catalog of the QF site?

For starters, computers are morons. They do exactly what their owners tell them to do. You asked Google to search for the site

formatting link
when in reality the site is quickenforum.com.

Here is a working search for "budget" on the site.

Perhaps some reflection and familiarization with the quickenforum site from your side will stand you in good stead. As it is I'm getting tired of refuting your unfounded assertions about the site.

I owe you one apology. To my amazement I just noticed that the Quicken Forum site as of today redirects from

I suspect it will take the google bots a few days to catch up with the name change. Until as recently as yesterday (i believe) the site did not have the "www" prefix.

Never mind... I was refering to Google's archive of it's own groups... this probably does not apply to other site searches by Google.

Ugh. I need to eat a whole heapin' big helpin' of humble pie. Your post is indeed correct.

The "www" prefix is not material, the site coordinator told me it has been in existence a while. I see all the Google hits has "www" in the site URL anyway. The reason Google can't find those "July Budget" hits must lie in Google, because I can find some of them if I search without the quotes.

I did speak to the site coordinator and he reaffirmed that they have no blocks on Google, in fact, they have made site changes to make it easier for the Google bots to crawl the site.

It may indeed be as Mike L has pointed out that there is just a time lapse between when posts are made, the site is crawled and the indexing is complete.

Dang, I hate the taste of humble pie.

The "July budget" articles are a week old, but perhaps Google could be that far behind.

You obviously haven't eaten enough of it. It's an acquired taste and I can state from personal experience that it becomes more palatable over time :-)

Without the quotes is a different search - one that doesn't require the exact phrase but only that the two words each appear somewhere on the Web page or NG post.

Well neither link tells me what these reward points are. I must have missed the original discussions. Normally I'm a regular reader, but I've been in and out of the hospital all year and thus have suffered spotty attendance. I'd appreciate someone's making an exception for me and actually providing an answer to my redundant question.

Regards,

Margaret
