Alliance & Leicester Credit Card Payment Protection Sharp Practice

A friend of mine applied for a credit card with A&L - she did not tick the box asking for payment protection on her application. there was an amount of 60p or so on her statement - so she paid it - silly - but she "doesn't want any trouble"

She told me about it.

I applied for a card just yo see what happened to me (there was a fifteen pound Argos Voucher for the application - so I am on a winner come what ever)

I did not tick the box on the application from for the payment protection.

Loh and behold - first statement they have charged me 29 pence.

Of course I will not pay this sum.

This is obviously sharp practice - I want to make the buggers feel pain.

Any suggestions for some sport at their expense?

Whatever you do don't buy another kettle with it :)

Does eithe Statement say what the charge is actually for ? - I ask only because you haven't said.

Do you really.

Yeh - don't use the card!

I believe A&L have recently been fined for aggressive overselling of payment protection on their personal loans also.

Yes, last October "High street bank Alliance & Leicester was fined a record £7m today for "serious failings" over selling techniques for payment protection insurance (PPI).

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) said telephone sales staff at the bank failed to make clear that the insurance for its loans was optional, and they were also trained to put pressure on customers when they queried the inclusion of PPI. "

Oh Jeez, Judith's going to go into full attack mode now :)

I took out a loan with A&L for a car at a stupidly low rate..........I had the cash to pay for it but this was a silly deal (something like 4.9% on the loan when another lender was offering 6.1% on a three year bond).

They phoned me and basically accused me of being reckless because I wasn't taking out their overpriced insurance..........the girl's parting comments were "you're very inconsiderate and I'm glad I'm not married to you".

I still laugh about it to this day........I guess she *really* needed the commission.
