Credit card limit agreements

Feb 18, 2011 6 Replies

I was telephoned from a call centre with an 0844 number and asked if my credit card limits had been raised without my signing an agreement for the increase. On telling them that it had on one of my cards I was told that a form would be sent to me to claim compensation for miss-selling of the card. Apparently, I was informed, 85% of card limit increases are not authorised under existing financial regulations due to no signed agreement. When I asked for the 3rd time how I could claim back a loss I haven't suffered - I did not pay for the card and always clear the balance at the end of the month so that interest is not payable

- the call ended. Was this a scam to obtain my card details or is such a claim possible? I can appreciate that many people are lured into taking credit beyond there means after being given too high a limit for their circumstances and they may have a case for compensation.

Do you have the full 0844 number? If so try searching goole with number.

Cold call? Just put the phone down. You know it makes sense.

Perhaps he doesn't live anywhere near Goole ;-)

No that's not the best method.....just ask if they can hang on a sec while you go to the toilet.....leave the phone off the hook. It wastes their time and money not yours. Eventually they hang up!

"No more unsolicited credit limit increases" Suspect the call was a scam, and they're trying to exploit middle ground, and get details out of you and are not an outfit that you want to be sharing your details with.

0844 number: well, would be interesting to know how it was. Might be bona fide. Barclaycard advertise an 0844 number for contact. 0844 numbers are not included in BT free minutes like 0845, so you have to pay

I won't be calling them in that case. 8-)
