Credit & Debit Transactions Crashing POS!?!

Aug 31, 2005 4 Replies

We've experienced a POS crash on a number of occasions when utilizing the integrated credit card process -- both credit and debit.

Has anyone else experienced this and how did you fix the problem?

We've talked to both DRS and Microsoft but stll can't seem to fix the problem.

Thanks!

Well, the fact that it happens on both credit and debit may point away from this, but it's possible that the PINPad draws more current than the PC power supply can support. This causes a short brown-out and the PC becomes unstable.

If you're using an OPOS based MSR, you may be having driver problems. - Try switching to a keyboard emulation model and see if it clears up the problem.

I have also seen this issue and resolved it by upgrading to the latest service pack..

We did have a similar situation that may not apply to you. It was crashing right at the time the system would begin printing the receipt. It was not a failure in RMS as we suspected, but the printer cable was at issue. It was corrupting the transaction data in RMS, sometimes posting twice sometimes not posting at all.

It was happening on multiple workstations (3) and the common denominator we assumed was RMS. It was the cheap printer cables, once we replaced the cables with a better quality cable all was well.

We have had similar problems. Make sure your network cards on both the server and the terminal computers have up to date drivers. We updated the driver on the server, after we were having to restart it regularly to get the credit card transactions to work, and this seems to have fixed the problem.
