Receipt Printer / Cash Drawer - What works?

Hi.

I am fed up with the constant problems I am having with my Epson-TM88iii printer / MMF cash drawer combination. I am pretty certain there is a bug with the Epson-TM88iii (OPOS software or firmware), because every couple of weeks, I get an error, that can only be solved by rebooting the computer.

In any case, I'm giving up at trying to solve the problem, and instead want to change my receipt printer and/or cash drawer.

But, rather than figure out a working combination through trial and error, i was hopping I could conduct a poll of opinions for printer / cash drawer combinations that are known to work flawlessly, that means no problems...ever (if possible).

Could you guys tell me what you have found to work very well?

Arthur,

What is the error you are receiving with the OPOS install of your Epson?

Is it relating to: "....OPOS is locked by another application...."

I actually love that combo and have used it for a bery long time w/out non-user related issues.

That is similar to one of the error messages I received. And yes, I have already configured the Manager application to allow multiple applications to use the printer simultaneously.

I am pretty certain there is a bug, since this problem is quite intermittent / random, and is therefore hard to reproduce.

I am surprised you are *never* having problems with it. My problems occur on average once every 2 weeks or so.

I also use MMF & TM88's, but I use windows drivers. I have never had a lockup issue. Now running that combo for 1 1/2 years.

In XP check the Print Server Properties, Ports tab and make sure no printers are listed on the same port as the Epson OPOS printer. Or for that matter even a printer listed in the printers folder using the same port causes problems. EX: Intuit printer. Delete anything not used.

Jeff, I will try what you said, and see if that helps, i may have to wait several weeks before I can safely confirm whether or not this solution fixed the problem.

I do admit that > In XP check the Print Server Properties, Ports tab and make sure no printers

Arthur,

What verison of OPOS are you using? Do you have more than on OPOS driver loaded? I have been using the 230e with my Epson TM-T88iii printer with my MMF with no problem. I have found a similiar error when I first starting using the MMF, but I did not remove the 1st driver completely.

I am using EPSON 2.50e.

That is the only driver I have ever loaded.

Arthur,

My associate has had problem with the 250e working with the TM-T88iii at one of my location in the past. The 250e work great with the Epson TM-T88IV printer, but I have found the TM-T88iii work best with the 230e.

The location my associate was having the issue, I un-install the 250e, rebooted and loaded the 230e and the store manager has not had an more issue with the register.

I have been using a Star TSP100 futurePRINT and a APG Series 100 drawer for 8 months with not one problem so far, this on MS POS v2.0.

Both USB > Hi.
