It takes me anout a minute for a login screen to pop up on my RMS SO
Open SQL Server Configuration Manager. Make sure TCP/IP and Named Pipes are enabled. The order should be Named Pipes first, then TCP/IP. Now go to Client Network Utility (in All Programs under Microsoft Dynamics RMS) and do the same thing. Enable Named Pipes first, then TCP/IP.
Open Administrator. Click File | Configuration. The Server should be the name of the computer with the database. Click Test Database Connection. It should be much faster.

Do you have Dell OPOS T200 printer installed? if so you need to update drivers for this device. to test if you disable the cash drawer in RMS Manager--> Database -->
Register --> List --> Pick # Register--> Cash Drawer 1 tab
