Unable to connect to database

I'm trying to set up our initial database and in SOA I get an error

2147467259 that my login fails. I've been through the setup guide and not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Also, I'm tying to set this up to test on a laptop without a LPT1 port in Virtual PC - where do I plug the dongle?

Is that the cause of the error?

Sorry, the dongle is/can/will not (be) recognized in VPC environment.

Jeff, thanks for the info. Is that the cause of my error. I don't think it is, because I get the same error on a actual PC with the dongle attached.

Did you follow the instructions of the Getting Starting file when you first inserted the CD?

It tells you how to create a new, empty or a sample database and how to connect to it in SO Admin.

SO Admin | File | Connect | put in you password | File | Configuration | does it test OK?

The default Manager and POS programs UserId is 1 and the Password is password.

Have you also started the SQL Service Manager?
