Upgrading to 1.3R - Advice

Hi all, I am running a 1.2 setup with 9 stores and HQ. My stores are all over the country. I noticed in the upgrade documentation the MS will not support a partial upgrade. Am I supposed to fly around the country (Australia) do all the upgrades (of course this will be smooth as silk), fly back to HQ, do the upgrade, not interupting any communication between stores and HQ in one day so our downtime in comms is minimal?

Of course this is unrealistic. Can I upgrade HQ manager and HQ server FIRST and then when I verify all is well go to store 1, upgrade their HQ CLIENT, make sure the comms work, upgrade ONLY Store Operations manager and leave it at that. The POS software looks good at 1.2 (I think).

When store 1 is good, do store 2, etc... as time goes by.

I would appreciate advice on this scenario.

Regards

Dan,

If you are on support at all of the stores, each should be receiving a copy of 1.3R. Then you can either remotely install it (you will have to have someone insert the CD into a shared CD drive ;-)) or talk someone over the phone to do it. Update the stores first and then HQ.

You will have to update the HQ client at each store too. That's a pain because its only on the HQ disk. One of these days MS will smarten up and put it on the SO disk too!!.

So instead, make a HQ Client zip file (the contents of the HQ Client folder and subs, 9 meg) and send it to the stores. Unzip it to a folder and run the setup.exe file Be sure to turn off HQ Client before updating and turn it back on afterwards

At HQ, turn off HQ Server and update. Downtime will be less than 10 minutes, then start the HQ Server back up.

Before you do any of this though, you should get the latest 1.3R hotfix from MS and install them after the CD update! Again you will have to send it to the stores too.

Dan,

I support our 54 locations across the US and with every upgrade, we stop all communications as directed, and run a shoprt series of conference calls. I will be doing this again in 1 week for 1.3R.

Good luck!
