QB Credit Card Downloads

The Quickbook credit card lets you download directly into Quickbooks and does not go through any kind of separate transfer file. When it works it is really nice and convenient, and well-integrated with Quickbooks.

Unfortunately, it frequently breaks. Today I try to do a download of six cards from Quickbooks Platinum Plus and I watched the traffic in a sniffer. It looks like Quickbooks doesn't even attempt any outgoing connection to any Internet site. I don't even see a DNS query from Quickbooks to our DNS server to get an IP address for the Internet server. Instead the "Online Status at Quickbooks Platinum Plus" dialog simply hangs with the message "Updating financial institution information...." permanently showing as the message. It never goes beyond that message and after maybe six minutes (!!) it times out.

Does anyone have a possible explanation for this behavior?

Yes. It is past 2/15 and that functionality has been removed from your now outdated version. ;)

Perhaps you need to rebuild the data file or more properly said, "Welcome to the wonderful world of Intuit!"

You might need to repair your QB installation. (Are you positive nothing has changed on the QB machine - program install or update?)

One other thing is possible, a computer on your LAN has been infected and the DNS lookup settings hijacked. Chances of this are nil compared to data corruption or program corruption. Its easy to check the hosts file and banks would be a prime target to redirect, hence no DNS query.

I have seen something similar in a multi-user environment, in a now very old version, when a user didn't map the network drive the data file was on. A system re-install was needed to get it going again.
