3 - Amex 4 - Visa / Delta / Electron 5 - Mastercard 6 - Meastro (Switch)

It may be one of the more unusual ones like Diners club or a store card. Or you may be looking at the wrong number

8944 is a prefix for a sim card for a mobile phone registered in the UK.

Ie:

894410xxx etc = Vodafone 894411xxx etc is O2 894412xxx etc is Orange 894420xxx etc is 3

Unsure about T-Mob, but must be 894413xxx?

Hope that helps,

It is the prefix for SIM cards, but it is also the prefix for prepay mobile topup swipe cards and in the context of the OP its likely that the receipt was from a topup purchase.

Indeed it is, but in the context of the OP its likely to be the prefix of a prepay top up card and the receipt is from a airtime purchase. Peter

Of course Peter, I do apologise. You are correct. I should have known that
