Sage problem

I have a problem with Sage Line50. Since a power outage (when obviously it wasn't closed down properly) on trying to open Sage Line50 I get an error message to the effect that it is already open.

Is there a way of getting around this problem please?

Many thanks.

I'm surprised, Edward, that you still haven't cottoned on to the fact that the only effective Sage support is at

I posted this query to the forum and very quickly received a fix which sounds good - although I haven't yet got round to implementing. Thanks for that Dave.

Some of us know that deleting the file queue.dta solves this problem, but unfortunately accounting software is off topic for this newsgroup, and it's better to let you know where you would get the most helpful information rather than relying on say, tax specialists, guessing what might work.... everyone to their own ;)

Take care,

Dave

How is discussion of accounting software off topic in an accounting newsgroup? There are tax newsgroups, but these are both accounting ones.

Perhaps you'd like to explain the second item found under the paragraph beginning:

However the following are not appropriate in this group:

Hey guys. On my first visit to this NewsGroup I asked a simple question and quickly received a response. At that point I was happy. I didn't mean to start a flame war on whether or not I should have asked the question in the first place.

Chill.

Bill, since you posted it to alt.accounting, it is in the appropriate place. I truly don't know nor care about the other one. We welcome and expect questions in alt.accounting about accounting subjects.

You will find there's only one person who complains about such posts.

So Dave DoobiDo answers my simple question (for which I am grateful) and subsequently complained that the question was off topic. Perhaps I'm suffering from faulty logic but if it was off topic why did he complain instead of answering my question? (rhetoric). In any case is it such a sin to go slightly off topic - something which is tolerated, in moderation, on other NewsGroups? It was not as though I was asking about something totally unrelated to accounting.

Confused!!

Just an observation. Could his comment have anything to do with the fact that you cross posted to alt.accounting and uk.business.accountancy?

Can't answer that one. I appreciate that cross posting should be avoided wherever possible but in the circumstances I was not to know which one (if not both) NewsGroups was appropriate for my question. They both looked appropriate.

In my opinion and for what it's worth, your posting to both of them should have been appropriate since they both are supposed to deal with accounting. That is true anyway as far as the name of the newsgroup is concerned.

I completely agree, but I would have posted to each group individually. However that's me and my feelings about crossposting. I do browse alt.accounting regularly and have never observed that "accounting software is off topic" here. I cannot speak for uk.business.accountancy, as I've never subscribed to the newsgroup or even know if my news server hosts such a newsgroup for that matter, though it appears that the reply came from that group.

Steven
