Connect to Database every power-up?

Aug 19, 2005 2 Replies

When I first created my database I used the admistrator to connect and create database. I then used Manager to build the database. Each day since then, when I power up computer, I haven't been using the administrator to connect to my database - I just started manager and it has the correct data. Apparantly, Manager can see the database even though I'm not officially connected to it thru the Administrator (?). Whenever I leave Manager, it asks me if I want to back-up database and I do. Am I misssing something here? Should I always connect to database 1st via the Admistrator before using Manager? If I don't (and I haven't), is the database out-of-date from the Administrator's viewpoint (i.e. do I need to re-sync in Administrator?)

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Hey Bob,

In the help file for Administrator it will show you that you are required to enter the database details (SERVER | Dbase User&Password and DATABASE NAME) into the Configuration section under "File" in the Store Operations Administrator program.

Once you have done this then you will no longer need to have Store Operations Administrator running when you want to open Manager.

The Basics are that Administrator creates a Dbase and also saves details of that Dbase to a file that is shared by all RMS applications.

Enjoy,

Ivan
