Cannot Install or Uninstall

Help! I am trying to upgrade from Q2003B to Q2005D and I am having a terrible circular problem. In order to install Q2005 Deluxe, the install program says I must uninstall the previous version. Fine. I tell it to go ahead. Get error message:

"You have chosen to cascel the uninstall of your current version of Quicken. [I haven't.] Please launch the uninstaller and complete the process."

If you try to continue and repeat the process, you go back around the circle of procedures and eventually get the error message:

"InstallShield Wizard: Error launching uninstaller."

So I try to find the uninstall program myself. The Quicken uninstall program does NOT appear in my Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. Also, it no longer appears in my Start/Programs list. In fact, no Quicken group is in my Start/Programs Menu. (It appears that during the initial try, the uninstaller got far enough along to remove that.) So I tried looking in Explorer in the Quicken directory to find the uninstall application and begin it manually. Cannot find any application in the Quicken directory that appears to be the uninstall program.

So next I searched this forum on Google. See several posts from people with this problem but no one with a solution.

Next I go to the Quicken support site. After a LOT of time spent, the best I can find is one entry in the Knowledge Base that says if the uninstall program is not listed in your Control Panel, go get the MicroSoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I do that. The Quicken support knowledge base article says to run that, then reinstall Q2003, then uninstall Q2003. I run the MS Cleanup Utility, I select Q2003B and it appears to do something (not sure exactly what.) Then I try to reinstall Q2003 (so I can hopefully, eventually next uninstall it). Yikes! SAME PROBLEM! I still get the SAME ERROR! Cannot install Q2003 until I uninstall previous version (Q2003). Go through same circular process as in the beginning and still cannot install or uninstall.

Has anyone found a SOLUTION to this mess?

Cannot find any further info in the Quicken KB. Will try the online support later today when they open for business. I am desperate.

Sure appreciate any help from you guys.

Had the same thing happen upgrading from 04p to 05p. Ended up cleaning registry, rebooting, reinstalling 04, rebooting, uninstalling 04, cleaning registry, rebooting & FINALLY installing 05. That worked for me.YMMV. dj

Moderator: Do you know what happened to my original post? It must have carried on some ISPs because it received a reply, but it has never appeared in Google.

Thanks, Heather

Hi, Heather.

Sorry to have to tell you, but there ain't no moderator here. :>( We're all just a bunch of Quicken users trying to help each other.

I saw your original post, and the reply from djebens. I've never used Google Groups to post here, so I can't help with that. I've always used OE through my hometown ISP's news server, currently SuperNews.com, I believe.

Ok, thanks R.C. I've had this happen to me before when I've posted through Google.

I think that regardless of the origin of the post, it takes a long time - by typical newsgroup standards - for posts to become visible at Google. I think I have seen it take a day and 3 or 4 hours was not uncommon.
